TV On The Radio – ‘Happy Idiot’ & ‘Careful You’ – A Quick Fire Late Night…Scrap That…It’s Now A Sunday Morning Stream of Consciousness…TAKE 2…Trippy/Deep…This Is Going All Over The Place This…Edited Slighly…Wonder What Version You Saw Or Will See (Edited on 31/07/23 at 00:53)

This song is one that sticks out to me this. Always found it to be a brilliant title for a song. Think there’s a few routes to go down here re reviewing it or summing up the lyrics.

‘Since you left me babe it’s been a long way down’

I think it’s about a man’s deep pain he’s *** feeling ***. From a break up *** quite *** possibly. I mean it’s a belter tune music wise too.

‘I’m a happy idiot to keep my mind of you.’

As always or often, lyrics can be *** interpreted *** differently – this to me is possibly how a man hasn’t properly dealt with his feelings of someone who he didn’t get completly over.

‘So I shut it all off’

As always or often there can be different ways to look at things & lyrics.

It’s difficult for men to talk about break ups or past experiences or feelings that have they had.

*** It’s *** easier to be a happy idiot sometimes – to protect yourself & maybe it’s better to choose being happy over being desperate for money/success – that or it’s good to be happy ‘idiot’ & enjoy the little things.

Maybe both is possible.

I think there’s men who repress things – women too.

You can be happy & ‘win’ or be successful too I think…I don’t know…yeah think so.

I mean…thing is too much ambition can be too intense & it can, make men want too much power & that can be harmful to themselves & other people too…I don’t know.

‘Careful You’

Some lyrics are paraphrased

‘I don’t know how I feel, is it real, what’s the deal’

It can be hard to know we feel sometimes, and put into words.

‘You’ve done a number on my heart’

‘We learn the secret of a kiss & how it melts away *** all *** pain’

‘I know it’s best to say goodbye but I can’t seem to move away’

Some brilliant lyrics here I think. I think there’s more lyrics like these than people think. Men have felt emotional pain – It’s OK for men to let it out.

‘I will care for you…careful for you’. Nice line that. Bit of wordplay I thought.

** The *** – do one typos! Part of it suppose. Maybe it’s ai messing with me or it’s a bit me a bit ai me or it’s subconscious or I’m rubbish or I need to focus better or whatever – the careful you bit could be ‘you’ as in the person but I wonder whether he’s talking to himself.

By the way I deliberately go into these fresh…I’ll see whether I can go on Song Meanings or watch an interview or something.

Interesting how we can interpret things though.

Musically I love the bit from about 4 40, got a mind of its own that bit – don’t what’s going on there!

Back to the lyrics, I read into that as like – be careful you (as in yourself), you’ve been emotionally hurt before – don’t dive into anything or go too fast.

I think past experiences can effect these things too – like grief – who knows maybe this is part of the lyrics too.

Some nice bits of French bits in this songs too – top analisis (that’s Spanish…I mean analysis) that I know!

I think people can want to be casual dating wise to escape emotional pain & past experiences can effect how what they want in the present – it can be fun too – also it can be human nature to want to explore & *** not *** want to be ‘commited’/prefer to be single…who knows eh.

OK, I’ve written all sorts here. Just my thoughts. See what ya think. I don’t have to be right, I don’t care. It’s more relating to things I think.
