Lad. Here’s my CV. I’m puttin’ on here – because I can’t print it off at the minute & application forms do my head in. Imagine if you actually had a better system that suited those with learning disabilities more.
So. I’ve worked for various companies. HMV, WH Smith, Next Clearance, Sabrosa, Zonerism (that’s sort of a joke) etc. I’ve worked in an airport, in a cafe & a restaurant. I’ve got a degree in Spanish. I volunteer teachin’ Spanish. I prepare notes for it. I volunteer else where too. I go the shop for my Dad & carry it back in bag because you have to get a loan out to get the bus these days. What else eh. I’m sound & I have emotional intelligence. I can tell you who won the World Cup in 2006, I can tell you about loads of bands & about the cost of living.
I went to university in a different city – that was difficult but fun – doin’ washin in front of strangers & carryin’ it upstairs after writin essays. It made me more street wise – I got two buses to go to classes – in a new city.
I know what it’s like for companies to squeeze every drop out of you. It’s like when WH Smith used to get us to serve a queue of about 20 people just by ourselves. And they gave us short lunch breaks to eat – about half of that was spent gettin’ to & from the staff room.
I’ve got City & Guilds certificates in Tourism, I studied English Language & Film & Television. I’ve had experience of doing bits media wise – nothing special really – it doesn’t make me better or worse than anyone. I used to write posh English & now I rebel by getting to the point. I still have fancy words like connotations, abstract nouns, epitome, paradox & paralinguistics in my locker though – I know loads of things like what transactional speak is – it’s when you go in a shop and they that’s 1 pound please or whatever – maybe I made that up I don’t know.
I know bits about pyschology. I know loads about music. I know this system is broken & it needs fixin’. I know what social media is like. I’ve won FPL leagues & played FPL for years – it improved by maths & taught me many other things too. I won a quiz once or twice with mates from uni – we won free *** ale *** – it was boss. I know what it’s like to look after a family member. I’ve learnt a ton from that – empathy & looking for people is so important. I’ve travelled & stayed in hostels on my bill – including when I stayed in a hostel abroad…in Wales (yeah that’s a joke & in Ireland too). I’ve been to other cities & countries *** too *** but what’s it to you. I can gab the leg off with in Spanish, English & Scouse. I can blag reading bits of French too – but I’m mainly a Spanish speaker.
HMV was a sound company to work for – that’s for sure – I worked with so many boss people there. I used to work for my Dad’s shop. I worked in stock rooms, shop floors & effectively as an interpreter for a bit. Serving people, till exchanges & cleaning up.
I served Steven Gerrard once – he nearly short changed me – so I said eh Stevie that’s 16 quid that mate. That was boss but it doesn’t make me special – I saw him at the right time – he’s just a person.
What else eh. I’ve listened to loads of podcasts & read loads of articles to improve my knowledge. I’ve done this site for 10 years. I’m on the spectrum, I used to do art at college & I’m a creative forward thinker. I look boss & rebellious too – yeah I’m gonna use my looks in this capalitist world.
I’m a jack of all trades & master of none. Experiences add up. Do you want a reference – well here’s one for you – refer to the fact that enough is enough.
I’ve worked with many people from abroad – plenty at that – and I know how hard they work. I’ve worked with single mothers, young people & those who can barely afford to get by to continue studying their university course. I’ve worked with people who looked down on me, I’ve worked with people who treated me well & I’ve been in classes & libraries with those who said snobby things but I’ve also been around many sound people too – I’ll try to focus on them more.
I know it’s like to be in your early 20s or younger & be pushed to the limit. I know what’s like to work & study. I know what’s like to carry 8 plates of tapas up and down stairs – just for them to have the cheek to still complain & have a go at you. I know what it’s like to be employed. I know what’s it like to be unemployed. I know what it’s like to work at 4:30 in the morning in an airport & until late at night. I know what it’s like to speak Spanish in *** 4 *** different jobs. I know what it’s like to be socially arkward, not confident & very confident. I know what’s it like to not go out for 2 months because you’re studying to finish your degree. I know what it’s like to be up until all hours getting essays & projects complete. I know what it’s like to get home from a library at 4 am. I know what it’s like to feel useless & worthless. That’s why enough is enough. People deserve to be treated right, payed properly & to be able to take care of themselves – and have a good time.
Thankfully there are companies or independent businesses that do treat their staff well – and I massively respect that – but unfortunately there’s plenty that don’t.
Not to mention the many other issues too. Food banks. People struggling to pay bills. Choosing to eat or heat. Addiction. Homelessness. Mental health problems. Loneliness.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
