We’re all human, and sometimes we can feel a bit awkward, so I think it’s good to relate to lyrics in that respect (whether it’s from the past, present, or in the future…anyway…who cares…it’s just talking to people).
Some lyrics are a bit paraphrased (and what lad).
The Roots – ‘Complexity’
*** “I used to come to the party and stand around.” “I was too shy to get down.” ***
Julia Jacklin – ‘Pressure To Party’
“Pressure to come up with conversation.”
Arctic Monkeys – ‘You Probably Couldn’t See For The Lights’
“Your Bobby’s at it’s peak, when you’re coming up to speak.”
“All tense, never tenser, and I could go all a bit Frank Spencer.”
“And now you’re more than a part in a play, it’s easier to think what to say.”
That’s somewhere in the middle I think, funnily enough I thought that meant when you can’t think that well in a club at like 2 am (well, maybe that’s how I heard it but whatever).
“***Tip ***of the tongue, and I can’t quite deliver it.”
“And you’d see how red my face has gone.”
Notes
*** Bobby (slang) means heart.
Reality In Motion (by Tame Impala)
“I’ll just pretend that I always knew that I had the chance to.”
‘Solitude Is Bliss‘ (by Tame Impala)
“Company is ok, solitude is bliss.”
‘People Are Strange‘ ( by The Doors )
“People are strange, faces look ugly, when you’re alone.”
‘How Soon Is Now‘ ( by The Smiths )
“There’s a club if you’d like to go, you could meet someone who really loves you, so you go and you stand on your own, and you go home, you cry and you want to die.”
*** The Forest ( By The Coral ) ***
“I’m in the forest so rare and devine, this is the place where you lose your mind.”
‘Migraine‘ ( by The Coral )
“Doctor, doctor won’t you help me please, I think I’m infected with a social disease, I go to parties and I just freeze.”
The song references what it is like to be shy or feeling isolated in particular social situations.
‘Fils de Joie‘ (by Stromae)
( Translated in English )
“Being alone sometimes can be difficult.”
In a sense this applies, the song is from 3 different perspectives (3 different people), but there are references to loneliness in the song (well at least one).
