Premier League [ 2021/22 ] GW20 Review (Yet Another Imperfect Stream of Conciousness)

| 30/12/21 | 20:00 (UK) | Old Trafford | Manchester United Vs Burnley |

| 29/12/22 | 20:15 (UK) | The Brentford Community Stadium | Brentford 0-1 Manchester City |

• Manchester City win a 10th consecutive Premier League match, remain unbeaten away from home in the league since GW1 and go 8 points clear at the top of the Premier League (played 1 more match than Liverpool).

• Manchester City keep their 12th clean in the Premier League in 2021/22.

• Cancelo moves level with Trent for most significant returns (clean sheets, assists & goals combined) from defenders in the league this campaign.

• De Bruyne scores/assists again (4 goal involvements in his previous 4 Premier League matches and continues to be influential).

• De Bruyne had 4 goal attempts and had a shot hit the woodwork (stats researched through SofaScore).

• Foden scores his 2nd Premier League goal since GW9 and his 5th in the league overall in 2021/22.

• Sterling (rested) and Bernardo Silva remain Manchester City’s top scorers in the Premier League in 2021/22.

Brentford resricted the Premier League 2020/21 champions to just 3 shots on target and have still only conceded 2 or more goals at home 3 times in the league this season (mostly conceded 1 or 0 at home) and seemingly continues to be a tough place to go (bit of a cliche alert there, but you know).

Despite having just 24% per cent possession (stat researched through the use of SofaScore), Brentford had numerous efforts at goal (12 goal attempts) and had a few half decent chances (2 on target, and on cleared off the line, more or less) but City held on to win.

• Brentford continues to be a credit to the league, and the atmosphere there is to be applauded and enjoyed, having taken Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool to the wire in matches at home and only failed to score at home in a league match for only the 3td time this season

This might be a paradox, as it is a tough place to go (cliche alert again) but have curiously only won 3 matches at home in the Premier League at home in 2021/22 (but have faced a considerable amount of the top 10 in their first ever season in the Premier League).

| 29/12/21 | 19:30 (UK) | Stamford Bridge | Chelsea 11 Brighton |

An injury time equalizing goal from substitute Welbeck means Brighton have still only lost 1 match away from home in the Premier League (just 3 overall) in 2021/22.

Chelsea suffer an injury to James, having gotten Kovacic and Lukaku (scored) back to fitness recently, and concede for an 8th time since GW10.

• Brighton score an away goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge for the first in their Premier League history (since being promoted to the league in 2017).

| 28/12/21 | 20:00 (UK) | The King Power Stadium | Leicester City 1-0 Liverpool |

Liverpool had 21 shots, 1 Mo Salah penalty saved (by Schmeichel) and hit the bar but are beaten by Leicester City to lose for only the second time in all competitions in 2021/22.

• Liverpool fail to score for the first time all season (in all competitions).

• Liverpool fail to score in a Premier League match since March this calender year.

• Liverpool fail to score away from home in a Premier League match for the first time since January this calendar year.

• Liverpool remain high for chance creation, are the highest scoring team away from home in the Premier League this season and are the 2nd highest scoring team overall in the league with a game in hand.

• Leicester City keep their 3rd clean sheet in the Premier League (all 3 at home) in 2021/22.

| 28/12/21 | 15:00 (UK) | Vicarage Road | Watford 14 West Ham United |

| Bowen Inspires West Ham To Victory At Vicarage Road |

• Bowen’s West Ham United beat Watford (1-4), having conceded the first goal (scored ht Dennis), to win their first Premier League away match since beating Aston Villa (by the same score) in November (probably).

• No player has more assists to their name than Bowen (11, may include FPL/unofficial assists).

• West score 4 or more away from home in the Premier League for the 3rd time this season and remain one of the highest scoring teams away from home in the league in 2021/22.

• Watford concede in the Premier League match once again (no clean sheets in the league in 2021/22).

• Dennis continues to shine and is set to face Spurs in GW21 (pandemic permitting) before being available (as things stand) for AFCON.

• King gets an assist and may well play a more central role if Dennis is to go to play in AFCON.

| 28/12/21 | 15:00 (UK) | St.Marys Stadium| Southampton 11 Spurs |

Spurs continue to create or have numerous chances (11 shots on target), albeit against 10 players (Salisu was sent off) but somehow don’t manage to get the win but continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League since Conte arrived as their manager.

• Southampton remain unbeaten in all but 2 of their Premier League *home* matches in 2021/22.

• Ward-Prowse (a key set taker for Southampton) scores his 5th Premier League goal of the season.

| 28/12/21 | 15:00 (UK) | Selhurst Park | Crystal Palace 3-0 Norwich City |

| Edouard Shines At Home Again |

Crystal Palace continue their strong home form with a 3-0 win against Norwich City (3-0).

• Crystal Palace had 19 shots (6 on target).

• Crystal Palace remain unbeaten in all but 1 of their Premier League home matches this season.

• Edouard returns at home again, with 3 goal involvements (1 goal and 2 assists), having assisted 2 goals at home to Southampton (2-2 ) and the vast majority of the former Celtic player’s goal involvements have came at Selhurst Park (is set to play a West Ham United side with key defenders out in GW21).

• No team has conceded more goals than Norwich City away from home in the Premier League in 2021/22.
